Ingredients

  • - 2 large onions thinly sliced
  • - 2 tablespoons butter
  • - 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • - 1 cup sour cream
  • - 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • - 1/2 cup Merkt’s spreadable cheddar cheese
  • - 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • - 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • - Salt and pepper to taste
  • - Chopped fresh chives for garnish
  • - Sliced French bread or baguette for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over low heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are deeply caramelized, about 15-20 minutes. Set aside to cool.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, Gruyère cheese, Merkt’s spreadable cheddar cheese, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until well combined.
  3. Once the caramelized onions have cooled, stir them into the cheese mixture until evenly distributed.
  4. Transfer the dip to a baking dish and spread it out evenly. Top with additional gruyère.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the dip for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the dip is bubbly.
  6. Sprinkle the baked dip with chopped fresh chives.
  7. Serve the cheesy baked French onion dip with sliced French bread or baguette for dipping.
